Floor Tiling in Bali

Floor tile installation in Bali. Indoor and outdoor. Ceramic, porcelain, natural stone. Correct substrate prep and expansion joints.

What We Do

Floor tiling looks straightforward but fails for predictable reasons in Bali: uneven substrate, missing expansion joints, wrong adhesive for outdoor use, no anti-slip spec for wet areas. We address all of this before laying. Indoor or outdoor, standard or pattern lay.

Starting Price

Labour from IDR 90,000/m². Materials (tiles, adhesive, grout, waterproofing) quoted separately. Full quote confirmed before work starts. Full pricing →

How We Do It — Step by Step

1. Substrate preparation

Floor tiling lives or dies on the substrate. We level the screed before laying rather than burying dips under thick adhesive, which is how hollow, rocking tiles happen. On uneven Bali concrete this prep is often the largest part of the job — and the part shortcut crews skip.

2. Layout planning

We set out the floor from the centre and the main sightlines so cuts are balanced and corners don't end up with fragile slivers. For large-format tiles, a flat substrate and a planned layout are the difference between a flawless floor and visible lippage between tiles.

3. Adhesive and coverage

The right adhesive for the location — interior, wet area or outdoor — applied with full back coverage. Interior adhesive used outdoors is the number-one reason outdoor floor tiles lift after one rainy season; we never make that swap.

4. Expansion joints and finish

On larger floors and any indoor-outdoor run we include expansion joints so tiles don't buckle in the heat. Then clean grouting and a final check for any hollow or proud tile before we call it finished.

Common Problems We Fix

Floor tiles fail in Bali for predictable reasons: an uneven substrate that wasn't levelled, missing expansion joints on a big or sun-exposed floor, the wrong adhesive used outdoors, or no anti-slip rating in a wet area. We design each of these out at the start rather than leaving the client to discover them a year later.

Whether it is a single room, a full villa floor or an indoor-outdoor run that flows onto a terrace, we treat the substrate as seriously as the tile itself. That is the part you cannot see once the floor is finished, and it is the part that decides how the floor performs for the next decade.

What floor tiles work best in Bali?
Porcelain for most indoor and outdoor floors — durable and low-maintenance. For outdoor and wet areas always specify R9–R10 slip resistance. Natural stone like andesite suits outdoor decks. We advise on the right choice for each room.
Can you tile over existing floor tiles?
Sometimes, if the existing tiles are sound and well bonded. More often we recommend lifting them and prepping the substrate properly, because tiling over hollow or moving tiles just transfers the problem upward.
Do you do outdoor floors too?
Yes — terraces, pool decks and entrances with exterior-grade adhesive, drainage slope and anti-slip tiles. See our outdoor and terrace tiling service.
How long does a floor take?
A typical room takes 1–2 days depending on size, layout and substrate condition, plus curing before heavy use. We confirm the timeline after the site visit.
