Our Ubud clients are villa owners, retreat and wellness operators, and long-term expat residents in the surrounding villages of Tegallalang, Mas and Penestanan. Many want a natural, earthy finish, which means stone that has to be sealed and maintained correctly to survive the constant moisture.
Constant high humidity in Ubud means unsealed limestone and travertine stain and grow algae quickly, and timber-adjacent installs need extra care with movement. Andesite is the workhorse here — naturally anti-slip and rain-tolerant — and we seal it on a schedule so it doesn't go green. Outdoor stone paths and pool decks get exterior-grade adhesive and a proper drainage fall so water never sits on the surface.
A retreat near Tegallalang asked us to re-lay an andesite path and pool surround that had gone slippery and mossy. We lifted the loose sections, re-bedded them with exterior adhesive, corrected the fall and applied a breathable sealer. It now sheds water and stays grippy through the wet season.
Ubud is slightly further out, so we usually visit within 2–3 days and plan the job around material drying times. Hill or coast, the rates are the same list. What gets extra attention up here is moisture — we test how wet the slab really is before recommending anything, so the quote solves the actual problem.
In Ubud's river valleys the air rarely dries out, and grout is the first thing to show it — dark lines in showers, green joints on shaded terraces. Plain cement grout soaks up moisture and feeds mould, so in Ubud bathrooms we use epoxy or mould-resistant polymer grout, seal cement grout wherever it is used, and silicone every internal corner. Ventilation matters as much: a wet room with no window or extractor grows mould on any grout. When owners call us about black joints, we check whether the tiles behind them are still bonded before recommending regrouting or a full bathroom re-tile.
Ubud villas are built on terraced ground: outdoor steps, split levels and long garden paths that stay damp for most of the wet season. Slip resistance is non-negotiable, so our usual choice is sawn or bush-hammered andesite with a breathable sealer, laid on exterior adhesive with a fall on every tread and landing so water runs off instead of feeding moss.
