Canggu is where most of our villa tiling work happens. The area's rapid build-out — new villas, cafes, co-living and boutique guesthouses going up every season — means a constant stream of tile installation and, just as often, repair work on jobs that were rushed by the previous crew.
Our Canggu clients are mostly villa owners, expat residents around Berawa and Batu Bolong, and property managers running short-let portfolios. Many come to us after a fast-tracked build left them with hollow floor tiles or a bathroom that leaks into the room below.
Canggu's high water table and heavy wet-season rain make waterproofing and drainage the make-or-break details here. A recent Berawa job: a two-year-old villa with three bathrooms where the original tiler skipped the waterproofing membrane. Tiles were lifting and the downstairs ceiling was staining. We stripped back the wet areas, applied membrane properly, re-laid with the correct adhesive and re-sloped the floors to the drains. No callbacks since.
Canggu sits at the centre of our workload, so an assessment visit usually happens within 1–2 days and scheduled work starts inside a week. Many Canggu villas are let by the night, so a floor has to survive suitcases, sandy feet and daily mopping, and a repair has to fit between bookings. We steer rental owners toward through-body porcelain in mid tones that hide wear, grout a shade darker than the tile rather than bright white, and epoxy grout in showers used every day. We also ask owners to keep a box of spare tiles from the same batch — it turns a cracked tile from a hunt through showrooms into a quick tile repair. In shared-wall townhouse blocks, upstairs bathroom tiling gets a flood-tested membrane before any tile, because a leak there ends up in the neighbour's ceiling.
Closer to the beach, salt carried on the afternoon wind settles on terraces and pool decks, and wet-season storms drive rain under the roof overhangs. Outside we use R10+ anti-slip porcelain or sealed andesite, polymer-modified grout that tolerates salt, and a fall away from the house that we check with a level before the first tile. Where a living room opens straight onto the deck, the movement joint goes at the threshold so the sun-baked outside half can move on its own.
